Looking Out

« Winter Firsts Dude, you have a fork in your head. »

What does it mean to be me.

I've asked myself that question a few times today. Well, less as a question and more as a statement. Now, as I listen to the "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" soundtrack (you know that part where Sam is talking about those really great stories, the ones that you remember, the ones about those people who do great things worth remembering—all the while Osgiliath gets bombarded by Nasgul and crazy orcs—and the music crescendos only to bring you to the brink of painful tears (yes, those stories! go on Sam!)), I have come to the conclusion that that question is subjective. It is a fantastical question that has an infinite number of answers. And depending on my mood, background music, and self-perception, being me can mean anything.

I am the person that Sam is talking about. I am an endless shadow. I am the moment now. I am a hero worth remembering. And, I am you. Yes, being me is just like being you. I told you it was subjective! Yes. It's no different to be me as it is to be you. Sam could have been talking about you equally as he had been talking about me in his "glimmer of hope" monologue. Don't we both do great things worth remembering? I made a fantastic dinner tonight. Didn't you?

Below is an image of me. Don't I look terrific? Isn't that a delightful picture? It's a picture of me, but it's also a picture of you! That's right. Here you are, looking terrific. You always look terrific. It's that easy. Say it with me, as one, "I look terrific." That's right. Now say this, "I am worth remembering." They will tell stories about you one day, that's correct. But, they will be talking about me, too.

That's Me, and You.

Me, or is it You?

Sounds ridiculous, I know. But, previous events have shown me that life is subjective. A totally reasonable human being can be convinced that he/she is acting totally insane and is 100% wrong despite the feeling that he/she is totally right! It's that easy. I can say whatever I want, but if I say it with conviction (and drop the occasional eff bomb), then that means I'm right! So simple! So, you and me, we're the fucking same. And that's what it means to be me, I mean you.
